Overview:

We are currently looking for a Buyer with business acumen and the ability to think strategically who can partner with the Director of Merchandising as we streamline operations, improve systems, and grow the business.

In this position you will:

  • Deliver daily, weekly, monthly and on demand sales reporting and analysis
  • Assort and merchandise retail stores/internet locations in order to maximize sales and gross margin contribution in assigned categories in conjunction with planner
  • Maximize product efficiency through maintaining integrity of product information, researching ideal product retails, suggesting strategies to grow sales and determining exit strategies as needed
  • Take on category buying responsibilities, including traveling to see vendors domestically, attending tradeshows, and potential to travel internationally
  • Work closely with marketing department to launch new products, develop private label packaging, and review weekly advertisements
  • Develop new products with buyer and ensure effective product introductions
  • Facilitate and lead Merchandising Meetings including preparing agenda and analysis
  • Maintain and grow vendor relationships with Merchandise Manager including (but not limited to) price negotiation, discounts, terms, and new store openings
  • Identify merchandise opportunities and communicate recommendations
  • Participate in special corporate projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years in a retail buying function
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, organize tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Ability to think creatively and to address and resolve challenges
  • Willingness to accept ownership of projects and take initiative toward their successful completion
  • Extensive experience with planning tools, Microsoft Excel or Lotus, Data query tools
  • Firm understanding of retail math calculations and how to apply these concepts to daily operations
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with vendors, store locations and internal coworkers to achieve departmental goals

This position reports to the Director of Merchandising.
