a. LiveBack
The Leap chair’s back changes shape to support the entire spine. This can reduce the chance of lower back sag and a hunched posture, which weakens disc walls, stresses back ligments and causes deteriorate of the spine.

b. Thermal Comfort
Thanks to slats in both its back and seat, and the special form it uses, the Leap chair offers excellent “breathability.” It effectively controls a balance of heat and moisture so you stay comfortable.

c. Adjustable Seat Depth
People don’t fit neatly into average body sizes. Leg and torso lengths can vary indepent of a person’s overall height. Adjustable seat depth accommodates different body shapes for long-term comfort.

d. Lower Back Firmness
Lower back firmness control enables you to set a constant amount of firmness to help maintain your lower spine’s natural curve.

e. Height, Depth, Width, and Pivot Arms
Arms telescope in and out, move forward and back, pivot and adjust up and down so you can find a natural position that comfortably supports the wrists, forearms, shoulders, and neck.

f. Natural Glide System
As you recline, the seat glides forward so you can recline without leaving your Vision and Reach Zone, so you stay oriented to your work. This encourages more varied postures so there’s less static load on the spine.

g. Flexible Seat Edge
When you recline or lean forward, the seat edge flexes to relieve pressure on the back of the legs.

h. Upper Back Force
Upper back force control enables you to set the amount of “push back” that you desire as you recline, regardless of the body size. So you’ll receive just the right amount of recline support.

Durability

In Steelcase’s research on healthy sitting, they discovered four things that advanced their view of how a chair needs to support the body. The spine doesn’t move as a single unit – when you recline, your upper spine moves backward and your lower spine arches forward. Each individual’s spinal motion is unique – even if you’re the same height, weight, age and gender as someone else, your spine will move differently when you sit. The upper and lower back require different amounts and types of support – your lower back requires firm constant support while your upper back requires increasing amounts of support as your body weight transfers from your sitting bones to the back of the chair. Vision and reach impact posture - when you recline in traditional chairs the distance between you and your work increases, which in turn can increase strain on your eyes, arms and neck. These four key discoveries became their guidelines for designing the Leap chair. They’re also the foundation for the Alive Seating principles designed into all their chairs: movement, orientation, fit and sustainability.

Environment

Every stage of the Leap chair’s life included a diligent focus to consider the environment. Steelcase consulted with McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) to select only materials that assessed safe for human and environmental health. Thus, the Leap is up 98% recyclable by weight, and made of up to 30% recycled content. Furthermore, the Leap chair contains no PVCs, CFCs, solvents, chrome, benzene, lead or mercury.

Leap has undergone a complete Lifecycle Assessment, evaluating the chair’s lifelong impact on the environment — from materials extraction through production, shipping, use, and end of life. In return, Steelcase's Leap has received Silver Cradle to Cradle™ Product Certification from MBDC and also has Indoor Advantage™ certification from Scientific Certification Systems in recognition being a low emitting product.

The Leap chair is designed for a long life. To ensure that happens, back cushions, seat assembly, arms, and lumbar support can be added, changed, or replaced at any time.

I have been sitting in the Leap chair for the last 3 years and its hands down my #1 choice for office seating. The lumbar support gives terrific support and flexes with my movements. Additionally the 4 way adjustable arm rests and the "live back" combine to make the Leap chair extremely comfortable. I usually sit for at least 10 hours a day and the contoured seat ensures that my tushy never hurts. I'm a Leap fan!
